John Canepa
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Canepa became CEO of PathoGenetix in November 2005. During his tenure at PathoGenetix, Mr. Canepa guided the Company through the launch of the Company’s initial product, several early rounds of bank and venture capital financing, the completion of a $50 million-dollar biodefense contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the recent transition to a new commercial strategy, including the $11.5 million financing completed in October 2011. Prior to joining PathoGenetix, Mr. Canepa served as Vice President, Finance & Administration, and Chief Financial Officer of Winphoria Networks, Inc., a venture capital-backed wireless telecommunications company. Under Mr. Canepa's direction, Winphoria raised more than $60 million of equity and debt financing prior to its acquisition by Motorola in May 2003. Mr. Canepa was instrumental in structuring business development arrangements and in negotiating the sale of the company to Motorola. Previously, he was a senior partner in the Boston office of Arthur Andersen, where he led the firm's worldwide life sciences practice. Mr. Canepa holds a Masters in Finance from Michigan State University and a B.A. from Denison University. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA.
David Hoey
Vice President, Business Development
Mr. Hoey brings over 20 years of business development and financing expertise to PathoGenetix. During his tenure at PathoGenetix, Mr. Hoey secured more than $55 million from Government contracts and corporate strategic alliances, in addition to a series of equity financings. Most recently, Mr. Hoey was Vice President, Marketing and Business Development of InfoLibria, Inc., a developer of Internet infrastructure solutions. Mr. Hoey also served as Vice President of Business Development at Molten Metal Technology, Inc., where he developed and maintained corporate alliances and joint ventures both in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Hoey has completed over $400 million in corporate collaborations and financings, and he served as consultant to, and Board Member of, Bligh Ventures Limited, a publicly traded Australian venture capital firm with strategic investments in biotechnology, software development, and telecommunications.
John Harris
Vice President, Engineering and Manufacturing
Mr. Harris brings over 20 years of experience with instrument development in the fields of fermentation, downstream processing, mass spectrometry and microfluidics. He joined PathoGenetix from Applied Biosystems, where he was a senior program manager. In this role, he was responsible for R&D project management at the company's Framingham facility. Mr. Harris worked at PerSeptive Biosystems prior to their acquisition by Applied Biosystems. While at PerSeptive/ABI, Mr. Harris managed many development programs resulting in the introduction of new chromatography instruments and upgrades to existing product lines. Mr. Harris holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College, London University, England.
Rudolf Gilmanshin, Ph.D.
Vice President, Advanced Platform Research
Dr. Gilmanshin joined PathoGenetix in June of 1998 as the first employee of the company. He has made substantial contributions to the development of all technology platforms. Dr. Gilmanshin came to PathoGenetix from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, where he studied structural transformations of protein molecules. He brings over 27 years of research experience, including work at Los Alamos National Laboratory, various universities, and the Russian Academy of Sciences where he studied protein folding, molecular films, and dynamics of biomolecular systems. Dr. Gilmanshin attained his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from the Institute of Protein Research at the Russian Academy of Sciences. He also holds an M.S. in Physics of Fast Processes from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and has authored 36 papers and several patents.
